OCC GREAT PLAINS 943G

  • OCC Great Plains 943G daughters are a great example of what a profitable range cow should look like.
  • His sons are very athletic and prolific breeders. Great Plains improves udders and feet. Monte cannot remember ever having any daughters of Great Plains with foot issues, Great Plains is a definite foot-improver.
  • Great Plains adds length of spine, and fleshing ability of his progeny is good.
  • Daughters are extremely fertile and maintain their condition well.
  • MH Frances 720 is an OCC Great Plains 943G daughter who is a great example of what Great Plains can do. She currently resides in our Edie Creek Angus herd in Canada as a 16yr old.
  • OCC Dixie Erica 606S is a Great Plains 943G daughter that we bought from Ohlde’s in 2009 who has calved here again as a 17-year-old in 2023. 606S is one of the best-footed & best-uddered cows ever to walk the Edie Creek Angus pastures.  She is also easy fleshing and undisputedly the most fertile cow we have ever had.  Calved in April the first year we had her, and within 2 years was calving at the very front of our Winter Calving herd (at the time), so moved ahead more than 2 months.  She has caught to AI or calved in the first cycle every year since then except once when our AI timing was off.

DAUGHTER: MH FRANCES 720

OCC HOMER 650H

  • Homer is double bred to the Dixie Erica of CH 1019 cow that produced many herd sires for Ohlde Cattle co and lived to be 21yrs old.
  • We saw his dam (OCC Dixie Erica 816B) several times at Ohlde Cattle co. in Kansas, and it was easy to see why he sires such nice females.
  • Homer provides exceptional calving ease. His calves are also quick to get up and nurse.
  • We are excited to be using an OCC Homer son through AI – MH Turbo 780. MH Turbo is linebred to the Dixie Erica Cow family, with his dam being the great MH Dixie Erica 113 cow.
  • OCC Homer 650H daughters are deep bodied, good-footed, real low maintenance, and are good at their job of raising calves.
  • Both Great Plains and Homer progeny are slower maturing cattle, which results in cattle that are long-lived and durable.

OCC ANCHOR 771A

  • Here is what the great breeder Tim Ohlde has to say about Anchor:

“Anchor sires unparalleled muscle, volume and fleshing ability. He will continue to be the best bull in the breed to change large framed, lighter muscled and structurally incorrect cattle. He even outperforms his sire, 6807, in this ability. Anchor daughters are moderate framed, very efficient females with great versatility in any breeding program. They have the ability to improve cow herd efficiency through reduced feed costs while maintaining production. The udder quality of the Anchor daughters is excellent.”

  • Monte found Anchor provided what Tim describes above. Monte also describes Anchor as a good bull to use if you have a good cow you want to replicate. An example of this was the MH Frances 2126 cow who was sired by Anchor and out of the Shoshone Frances 6357 cow.

OCC EMBLAZON 854E

  • Emblazon brought very similar traits to a pedigree as Anchor did, but with a little more length and performance.
  • “The Emblazon daughters have great fleshing ability and excellent udder quality. We consider his full sister, OCC Dixie Erica 816B, to be the ideal Angus cow and his dam’s contribution to our program is unequaled” – Tim Ohlde
  • We were fortunate to see OCC Emblazon in the flesh and he looked even better than he does in pictures.

N bAR EMULATION ExT

  • In the early days Monte used N Bar Emulation EXT via A.I. with great success, and frequently crossed him with OCC Emblazon 854E.
  • “EXT” will improve feet and udder, and bring down the input requirements of a herd.
  • Here is the write up from ABS, the genetics company that sold his semen for many years:
    • “The original curve bender is one of the most influential sires in Angus history.  With outstanding, functional phenotype and longevity, EXT left his mark as a foundation maternal sire.  Known for his beautifully-uddered, productive daughters, his pathfinder genetics are still widely sought after today.  EXT was well known for his ideal growth curve, moderate birth weights and reduced mature size.  Very few sires in the Angus breed will have the same lasting effects as this sire.”
  • We have found the dispositions to be better on the OCC Great Plains 943G progeny overall than his Sire, “EXT”. Tim Ohlde also points out that Great Plains excels his sire EXT in every EPD.
  • This linebred legend in the Angus breed had more total registered progeny than any other sire in history.
  • “EXT” matured at 2400 lbs with a 55 inch hip height, and lived to age 14, and was an outstanding producer of semen. His daughters are widely regarded to be excellent in functionality, longevity, fertility, structural soundness and udder quality.
